It has also been used in treating chronic gastritis and hepatitis. It is helpful in a cough, dyspepsia, facial dropsy, edema, injury, and oliguria. The leaves are antibacterial, astringent, diaphoretic, hypoglycemic, odontalgic and ophthalmic. Stems are used in the treatment of rheumatic pains and spasms, especially of the upper half of the body.
